Maria + Bendic
Imagine it being 20. January and it’s one of the coldest day in years, you’re 7,5 months pregnant, you’re getting married in only a few hours and your wedding photographer shouts “LOOK AT THIS BEAUTIFUL DAY! Buckle up guys - we’re going up the mountain!”
What would you say? “Hell no, you’re crazy!” or “Heck YES, sounds like a plan!”
Luckily for me this beautiful couple answered the latter and was not afraid of a little frostbite and a spur of the moment adventure, and for that I am forever grateful, as this image won me a silver medal in the local photographers guild competition, and a bronze medal in the Norwegian championship for proffesional photographers:
Bergen is known for it’s bad weather, as it rains roughly 242 days a year (!!) and as we’re in the northen hemisphere, sunlight is limited to only a few hours during the winter months. So if you’re working as a wedding photographer in Norway, you’ve got to get creative.
That’s why we decided to take the couples photos before the wedding ceremony in the church.
I met with Maria and Bendic around 11 AM, and we were stunned by how beautiful the day was. The skies were clear and blue, and the sun was shining on the soon to be wed.
We all knew that we couldn’t let this opportunity go, and we all agreed that we had to go to the top of the snow covered mount Ulriken to take the wedding photos.
As we got up there, the view was spectacular but it was absolutely freezing, so we knew we had to work fast.
We spent about 15 minutes at the top of the mountain until we had to get back down, one of my quickest photo shoots to date, but it was so worth it.
We had very little time to get some more shots done as we got back down, but we made it all in time for the ceremony, and Maria and Bendic said their I do’s ad the sun set outside.
